Who we are

The Initiative.

The Antonio Cassese Initiative is home to all friends, colleagues and admirers of Antonio Cassese. The Initiative’s aim is to keep Nino’s memory alive by promoting his legacy through education and training around the world. It promotes the creation of a global network of jurists and trainers “without borders”, who want to share their legal knowledge and expertise with judges, prosecutors and lawyers working in countries facing challenges in the administration of justice.

The Antonio Cassese Initiative is governed by the Antonio Cassese Foundation for Justice, Peace and Humanity and assisted by a Steering Committee, which supports the activities of the Antonio Cassese Initiative.

What we do

The Antonio Cassese Initiative carries out three main activities

It provides education and training through its Traveling School which instructs in areas dear to Antonio Cassese, including international human rights law, international criminal law, and transitional justice. This is part of the establishment of a broader global network of jurists and trainers “without borders”, who operate in these areas of law;

It offers a platform where the editors, readers and contributors of the Journal of International Criminal Justice, founded by Antonio Cassese in 2003, can share stories related to the Journal and its cultural mission, including the Antonio Cassese Prize and the Journal of International Criminal Justice Prize;

It collects testimonies of the professional and academic life of Antonio Cassese and the tributes to his memory.

You can support us in a variety of ways:

By joining our global network of jurists and trainers and contributing pro bono to our Traveling School;

By supporting our long-term judicial training project in Africa and partnering with us;

By writing articles for the blog of the Journal of International Criminal Justice and by sharing memories and information about Antonio Cassese and tributes to his memory and legacy;

By becoming an annual supporter with a donation of a minimum of 20 euros or a honorary life time supporter with a one off donation of a minimum of 500 euros;
